Vitality Blast Countdown: Prest Makes His Mark On Edgbaston

2022 Vitality Blast champions Hampshire Hawks begin their 2023 T20 campaign at Taunton against Somerset on Wednesday 24^th May.

We are counting down the days until the Hawks’ title defence begins and today marks 64 days until then. 19-year-old Tom Prest lit up Edgbaston as he smashed 64 from 46 balls against Somerset in the semi-final to avenge the Hawks from the previous year’s defeat to the same opposition.

James Vince won the toss and elected to bat first, and the Hawks got off to a flying start scoring 69 runs off the powerplay.

Prest was quick out of the blocks, scoring back to back boundaries off spinner Lewis Goldsworthy, before he followed it up with two fours off a Ben Green over.

The youngster then took a liking to England’s Lewis Gregory, hitting back to back boundaries before two more boundaries off Peter Siddle saw the 19-year-old to his half-century, off just 38 deliveries.

He rounded his innings off with a six, and the Hawks finished on 190 from their 20 overs before three wickets from Nathan Ellis helped the Hawks to a 37-run victory.
