Vitality Blast Countdown: Wood Takes Three At Sofia Gardens

Chris Wood registered figures of 3-14 in Hampshire's low-scoring victory against Glamorgan in Cardiff

2022 Vitality Blast champions Hampshire Hawks begin their 2023 T20 campaign at Taunton against Somerset on Wednesday, 24th May

We are counting down the days until the Hawks’ title defence begins, and today marks 25 days until then. Our number 25, Chris Wood, was at his economical best in Hampshire's low-scoring thriller against Glamorgan at Cardiff.

James Vince lost the toss, and we were asked to bat first on a tricky pitch in Cardiff.

The captain registered a run a ball 44, with Joe Weatherley top scoring with a crucial 46 from 36 balls, the highest score of the match.

Toby Albert came in late into the innings but added some much-needed impetuous, finishing 21 not out.

Wood then struck in his first over, bowling David Lloyd for just one.

The left-arm seamer would have to wait until the 17th over of the innings until his next wicket, having Andrew Salter safely pouched in the deep by the reliable hands of Ross Whiteley.

His final wicket was the nail in the coffin in many ways. James Harris could only skew a short ball into the hands of Joe Weatherley.

Birmingham finished 82 all out thanks to a convincing bowling display from the Hawks to push them to Finals Day in a convincing fashion.
