Find out more about the four players in the running below.

Liam Dawson

The all-rounder seemed to start the 2024 season in a similar style to how he performed in 2023. In his first innings with the bat, Dawson recorded Hampshire's high score – making 86 from 170 balls. Lancashire then came to the crease and, late on day two, Dawson produced a moment of magic when he took a spectacular diving catch to dismiss Tom Bruce for a golden duck. He then went on to take 4-156 with the ball, including the wicket of centurion Keaton Jennings.

Nick Gubbins

Lancashire's visit saw Gubbins produce another impressive display with the bat – having made centuries in both innings the last time they made the trip down south. This time around he started with a score of 50 from the first innings, to give him his first half-century of the season. The left-hander was then able to follow this up with an unbeaten 69 as Hampshire looked to be under pressure in the match. His calmness at the crease helped to secure the draw for the home side.

Tom Prest

Prest showed his potential in red-ball cricket when he recorded a maiden first-class century against Essex at the back end of last season and he looked right at home at number five in the order during this match. Scores of 85 and 45* in both innings were full of some eye-catching shots, including three sixes across the match, while his battle with Australian legend Nathan Lyon was particularly positive.

James Vince

The skipper showed his class throughout the match, especially with the bat. In the first innings he made 56 from just 74 balls, before adding 33 in Hampshire's second innings. Both innings came at important times to help steady the Hampshire batting line-up and ensure they walked away with the draw.
