Emily Windsor: I Think It's Going To Be A Very Competitive Series

Hear from Southern Vipers’ Emily Windsor as she looks ahead to The Women’s Ashes

England Women will be looking to do something the men weren't able to do this winter, and win the Ashes in Australia.

With the start of the series just around the corner, we caught up with Southern Vipers' batter Emily Windsor and she expressed her eagerness for the series to get underway.

'I am really, really excited, I think it's going to be a fierce and very competitive series. I think the England squad is very strong. There's a lot of different players in the squad, while obviously Australia will be playing in their home conditions.'

Windsor reiterated the size of the task ahead of the England team, against the number one ranked T20 and ODI side in the world.

‘It’s going to be a real tough battle for the England girls, but I can see it being a good contest and hopefully England can go one better than the men and bring it home.’

The Portsmouth native talked positively about the Australian domestic structure and what it’s meant for women’s cricket in Australia.

‘They've obviously had the women's Big Bash competition for a number of years now. So, the players are developing through and there are more professional players out there. I think that’s a credit to how the women’s game has developed and arguably it’s a few years ahead of us.’

Windsor talked fondly of the Southern Vipers who feature in the England squad.

‘I’m really excited to see Danni (Wyatt) out there because she has got experience playing in The Ashes and I’m hoping she’ll do well in both the T20 and  ODI formats.’

‘I think Charlie (Dean) performed really well this summer, she was one of the leading wicket takers in the series against New Zealand and as an off spinner, she brings something different to the women's game because she turns the ball and Australia have a lot of left handers.’

Maia Bouchier - who played in the WBBL for the Melbourne Stars – also features in England’s squad.

‘She (Maia) would have been playing with a lot of the players in contention for the Australia squad, including Meg Lanning (Australia’s captain), so she knows how she thinks. Knowing the conditions in Australia will definitely help her too.’

Two further Vipers players have  travelled to Australia as part of the England A squad, all-rounder Georgia Elwiss and seamer Lauren Bell.

They will be met by a familiar face as Vipers’ Head Coach Charlotte Edwards is part of the coaching team for the ‘A’ tour. Windsor explained how Edwards’ experience can only be a positive factor.

‘She knows what it's like as a player. She was the best player in the world. So even apart from the coaching side, she's going to offer that group a lot off the field.’
