Winter Watch: Hampshire Players In Action Abroad

Five of Hampshire's stars are still in action overseas this winter, take a look at how they're getting on

It has been a promising winter for Hampshire’s Rilee Rossouw as he travels the world taking part in limited overs tournaments.

The ever-growing T10 league in the middle east saw Rossouw etch himself as the competition’s third highest run scorer. The South-African scored 226 runs from eight games at an average of 38, placing him behind only Shane Watson and Chris Lynn.

Once the T10 had concluded, Rossouw crossed the Arabian sea where Bangladesh and space in the Khulna Tigers batting order awaited.

Since then, Rilee has notched up an impressive 411 runs at an average of 59!

His team sit fourth in the BPL table where a match winning 71* (36) against Cumilla Warriors just two days ago, was a highlight.

James Vince’s Sydney Sixer’s and the Melbourne Stars continue to be the runaway teams in this year’s BBL.

The Hampshire skipper has registered double figures in every innings of the Bash so far and picked up a well-earned player of the match award for his 41 (26) against the Renegades.

Arriving at the crease with his team needing another 74 runs from just over eight overs, Vince’s innings at a strike rate of 158 was just what the Sixers required to get over the line.

Scores of 39 and 22 against Brisbane Heat and Perth Scorchers respectively, have also been notched up as Vince will return to Hampshire in hot form having played a full winter of cricket.

His tournament impact has not only been noted in Australia, Vince’s Msanzi Super League side, Paarl Rocks were crowned champions of the South African tournament for the first time in their history.

Ian Holland entered 2020 having made his international debut in November for the United States of America.

‘Dutchy’, born in Wisconsin has taken a number of wickets in the Caribbean and registered an unbeaten 59 against Guyana, before they played the first group of ICC sanctioned ODI’s in December.

Holland’s experience in the American middle order meant that they would since win their first One-Day International, defeating the UAE by three wickets in Sharjah.

The USA have since won two of their last three fixtures in the middle east, beating Scotland and the UAE respectively.

Felix Organ is bathing in runs and wickets in Australia as the 20-year-old continues to impress down under for Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club, Melbourne.

Organ, who made his first class debut for Hampshire in 2019 has scored almost 400 runs at an average of 29, and taken eleven wickets.

A highlight of Organ’s winter so far is a blistering 128 against Essendon at the end of November.

Much like Organ, Harry Came has continued to play cricket in Australia this winter for Ringwood Rams.

A high score of 60 has been the highlight as the middle-order batsman continues to gain precious time out in the middle leading up to a busy pre-season schedule.
