Southern Vipers player Lauren Bell will represent the UP Warriorz squad for the Women's Premier League (WPL) inaugural season
The first edition of the Women’s Premier League will start on Saturday 4th March at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai, India.
The tournament will consist of 22 matches, with each team playing eight games, along with a playoff-style eliminator between second and third place, with the top-placed team progressing straight to the final.
Three existing IPL franchises in the name of Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals, and Mumbai Indians will be competing for the inaugural trophy along with two brand-new franchises – Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz.
Southern Vipers ace bowler Lauren Bell was bought in the auction for INR 30 lakh, approximately £30,000, and will headline the UP Warriorz squad alongside the likes of Deepti Sharma and Australians Tahlia McGrath, Grace Harris, and wicket-keeper Alyssa Healy who has been named team captain.
UP Warriorz have also recruited England Women’s Head Coach Jon Lewis in the same role, with Southern Vipers Head Coach Charlotte Edwards leading Mumbai Indians alongside former Indian fast bowling superstar Jhulan Goswami as a mentor and bowling coach.

Tickets for Southern Vipers fixtures are available at the cheaper, Advance rate until 11:59pm the day before the matchday, after which ticket prices will change to the On The Day rate for that match.
Tickets for the two T20 Double-Headers with Hampshire Hawks on Friday 26th May and Wednesday 31st May are available at the Super Early Bird rate until 31st March.
