Wood Looks Ahead To 2023 Vitality Blast Campaign

Hampshire's leading T20 wicket taker Chris Wood reviews a bumper Vitality Blast schedule for 2023

With Hampshire looking to defend their Vitality Blast crown in 2023, Chris Wood acknoledged the importance of getting the fixture schedule as the team up their preperations for a massive 2023 season.

"Obviously you identify teams you're playing against pretty early on. There's plenty of tough games in the South Group and I can't wait to hopefully defend our title."

When asked if the fixtures helped the team in preperation during the winter months, Wood was honest in his answer.

"I don't think so. I think I naturally look from somebody that's had a few injuries for time between games, but I don't think so. The excitment just kicks in. You find out what that first date is, who you're playing agaisnt, then it comes around very, very quickly."

With the Hampshire Hawks kicking off their Vitality Blast defence against Somerset at Taunton, Wood looked back to last season's match up in the west country with fond memories.

"I love going to Somerset to be honest, it is a massive challenge, especially as a bowler. I think it's one of the best places to bat in the country and I suspect the stats will back it up, that it's a very high scoring ground."

Wood picked out some of his personal highlights in the fixtures he thinks fans should look out for

"Sussex here at The Ageas Bowl on the Saturday evening, we managed to do the double over them last year so hopefully more of the same. There's also a couple in there, the double-headers with the Vipers. The women's game is growing all the time and I believe there's two occasions that's going to happen this summer."

Wood was optimistic in the Hawks chances of going back to Finals Day in 2023

"I think that's got to be the aim first and foremost to come in the top four. We sit down at every pre-season and say that we want to qualify that's kind of a no brainer given the squad that we've got."
