Amanda-Jade Wellington is a right-arm leg-spinner and right-handed batter who adds vast experience and proven wicket-taking quality to Hampshire’s women’s squad. Born in Adelaide, South Australia, Wellington made history early in her career, debuting for South Australia at just 15. She became the youngest player ever to represent the state. Inspired by Hampshire and Australia legend Shane Warne, Wellington taught herself to bowl leg-spin in her backyard.

Wellington made her international debut for Australia against South Africa in 2016. She took a wicket on her very first ball, deceiving du Preez with Alyssa Healy effecting the stumping. She has since earned 23 international caps, taking 30 wickets across all three formats.

Wellington was part of Australia’s T20 and ODI World Cup winning squads, as well as Australia’s gold medal-winning team at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

A dominant performer in domestic cricket, Wellington has been a long-standing member of the Adelaide Strikers in the Women’s Big Bash league (WBBL). She won back-to-back titles with the strikers, scalping over 170 wickets, with career-best figures of 5-8 during the 2021-22 season. She is widely regarded as one of the most effective leg-spinners in the competition’s history.

We’re really pleased to secure Amanda-Jade for the whole of next season. She’s a friend of the club and a vastly experienced cricketer, who boasts a fine record with bat and ball in England having featured effectively in The Hundred and in Tier 1

Adam Carty, Regional Director of Women’s Cricket

Wellington has been an integral part of English domestic circuit too. She represented Southern Vipers in the 2019 Kia Super League, before becoming a key figure in The Hundred, turning out for Southern Brave in 2021 and 2022, Manchester Originals in 2023 and Oval Invincibles from 2024. She is also the second-highest wicket taker (52) in Women's Hundred History.

In the County setup, Wellington featured for Somerset Women during the 2025 season. She finished as the club’s leading wicket-taker in the One-Day Cup with 19 wickets - and scored handy 282 runs with the bat. She has also represented Western Storm across both List A and T20 formats.

Wellington joins Hampshire for the entirety of the 2026 season, bringing elite international pedigree, experience in English conditions and proven success across major global tournaments.
