Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist – Spine & Shoulder

Having qualified with a 1st class Honours degree in Physiotherapy in 1996, Martin quickly developed a special interest in spinal and shoulder musculoskeletal problems. He has worked in the NHS at both Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth and Southampton General Hospital. It was here that he worked as a specialist physiotherapist alongside Orthopaedic spinal surgeons Mr Evan Davies and Mr Steve McGillion and Orthopaedic shoulder surgeons Mr Andrew Cole and Mr Campbell Hand (Southampton) and Mr Chris Featherstone (Portsmouth).

Being a keen sports enthusiast, Martin has worked with local cricket and rugby teams supporting players rehabilitation to return to play. He also developed and implemented a pre-season screening programme for rugby players monitoring shoulder injuries, stability and strength, with the aim of reducing injury and returning players to play when they met rehabilitation standards.

In 2004, Martin obtained a post graduate diploma in Manipulative physiotherapy and completed a Masters in musculoskeletal injection therapy in 2011. He has also published in the area of spinal rehabilitation and presented (posters) at the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy conference in 2015 and 2017 on spinal pain decision making and management.

Having expertise in manual therapy, joint manipulation and rehabilitation, Martin thrives on developing bespoke treatment/rehabilitation programmes for patients and importantly also knows when a patient may benefit from further investigation, injection therapy or referral to a consultant.
