Paediatric Physiotherapy

Specialist musculoskeletal care for children and teenagers

Growing bodies need tailored care. Our Paediatric Physiotherapy service is dedicated to the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal conditions in children and adolescents. Whether your child is recovering from an injury, dealing with growing pains, or healing post-surgery, our expert team are here to support them through every stage of recovery.

We understand that children aren’t just small adults - their treatment needs to reflect their development, their activity levels, and their goals. Our specialist physiotherapists work closely with families to deliver care that’s supportive, age-appropriate, and focused on helping young people return to school, sport, and play.

Conditions We Treat

We regularly assess and manage a wide range of musculoskeletal issues in young people, including:

  • Back pain, including pars defects and postural dysfunction
  • Avulsion injuries often seen in active or sporty adolescents
  • Flat feet and associated lower limb discomfort
  • Fractures and support during the rehabilitation phase
  • Heel pain, including Sever’s disease
  • Hip pain, including growth-related and traumatic injuries
  • Ligament injuries and post-operative rehab for procedures like ACL and meniscal repairs
  • Knee pain, including:
    • Osgood-Schlatter disease
    • Sinding-Larsen-Johannson syndrome
    • Patellofemoral joint pain
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation, including:
    • Calf releases
    • A-plates
    • Derotational osteotomies

Our Approach

Every child is different, and we ensure that treatment is personalised, engaging, and supportive. Our assessments consider not only the physical issue but also how it may be affecting your child’s lifestyle, sport, schooling, and wellbeing.

Treatment may include:

  • Age-appropriate exercise and rehabilitation programs
  • Manual therapy for joint and soft tissue mobility
  • Education for children and parents to understand the condition and recovery process
  • Strengthening and flexibility work tailored to sport or activity goals
  • Post-operative rehabilitation to restore function and confidence after surgery
  • Movement analysis and gait assessment, where needed

Our goal is to help every young person feel empowered, confident, and capable - whether they’re returning to sport or simply playing pain-free.

Parent FAQs & Support

How long will my child need physiotherapy?
This depends on the condition and your child’s progress. Some issues resolve quickly, while others, such as post-operative rehab, may require a longer-term approach. We’ll always keep you informed with a clear plan.

Can I stay with my child during their appointment?
Absolutely. Parents and guardians are recommended to stay throughout the session. We find that having you involved often helps younger children feel more at ease.

What should we bring to the first appointment?
Please bring any relevant medical letters, referral notes, or imaging results (e.g. x-rays or MRI scans). Comfortable clothing is also recommended so we can properly assess movement.

When can my child return to sport or PE?
We will guide you and your child on a safe return to physical activity. This varies depending on the injury but is always based on function, confidence, and recovery milestones.

Will you communicate with my child’s school or sports coach if needed?
Yes, we’re happy to provide a letter or email that can be passed on to schools or coaches to ensure your child receives the right support during their recovery, but please ask regarding this as there may be a charge for this service.
