Safer Recruitment/DBS

The ECB is firmly committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for everyone to enjoy the game.

Safer Recruitment

It is essential that cricket clubs follow safer recruitment guidance to ensure all staff and volunteers in cricket are suitable for their role, appropriately vetted and supported by their club.

All organisations working with children have safeguarding responsibilities and clear requirements upon them by legislation. This applies whether you are a club, league, panel, or another organisation. Legislation exists to ensure safer recruitment practices are following, including Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks for those in regulated activity.

The ECB 'Safer Recruitment Guide for Clubs' outlines what clubs should consider when recruiting an individual.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)

There are many roles in cricket that require an ECB DBS check. To see what roles require one, please visit the ECB website.

The process to apply for an ECB DBS is straightforward and is online. For volunteers, the process is free and for paid roles a fee of £38 is payable to the DBS upon application. There is also an option to enrol onto the ECB Update Service for an additional £13 per annum.

If you require a ECB DBS certificate, please contact your Club Safeguarding Officer to request that your application is initiated.

Once your application is initated, you will receive an email with easy-to-follow instructions to help make your application. There is a helpdesk function within the system. When the DBS have concluded their checks, you will receive a paper copy of your certificate in the post.

A DBS is valid for 3 years.

To renew your DBS, you will receive an email annually requiring you to log in and give consent to be rechecked and to confirm your personal details.
