Hampshire Cricket Foundation Donates £5k To Local Food Bank

The Hampshire Cricket Foundation has awarded a five-thousand-pound grant to a food bank based in Hedge End.

Food Centre is an initiative, run by Kings Community Church, that provides free food to families struggling during the cost-of-living crisis. The Hampshire Cricket Foundation has provided the grant to the centre, based in Hedge End, allowing them to purchase an industrial fridge and crucial supplies to help maintain and improve their service.

Southern Vipers all-rounder Alice Monaghan visited the food bank alongside Hampshire Cricket’s newest signing, Ali Orr, to learn more about the charity’s work in the community and see the impact of the donation.

The pair met Alasdair Duncan, who manages the charity’s work, to understand how they operate, meet volunteers and witness the impact of the donation.

Around April, March time we were seeing about 12 families per session, which equates to about 30 or 40 people. Now we’re seeing about 20 to 25 families, which equates to about 70 people. The new fridge helps us with stock levels, maintaining those because the stock is going down considerably. The donation has been absolutely fantastic to us, a real huge help.

Food Centre provides fresh, dried, and tinned food to families, but also to schools and local businesses, and have another centre in Weston. In addition to providing food, the initiative has connections with several other charities and agencies that they can put people in touch with, should they need further support.

It’s wonderful that places such as Hedge End food bank, here at King’s Community Church, are helping to support people when they need it most, in times of hardship.

We’re delighted at Hampshire Cricket Foundation to play a small role in helping to bring together local communities and support projects like this, and make sure that no families in our local community go hungry this Christmas.
