What is Sports Therapy?

Sports Therapy is a specialised branch of healthcare that focuses on the prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation, in particular sports-related injuries. Sports Therapists are trained professionals who possess in-depth knowledge of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and exercise science, allowing them to effectively evaluate and manage musculoskeletal conditions commonly encountered in athletes and active individuals.

Our Approach to Sports Therapy:

At the Hampshire Wellbeing Centre our Sports Therapists take a holistic approach to Sports Therapy, addressing not only the symptoms of injury but also the underlying factors contributing to dysfunction and impaired performance. Our comprehensive services encompass the following key components:

  • Injury Assessment: Our Sports Therapists conduct thorough assessments to identify the root cause of your injury or discomfort, utilising a combination of orthopaedic tests, movement analysis, and medical history to develop a working diagnosis.
  • Treatment Planning: Based on the findings of your assessment, our Sports Therapists create personalised treatment plans tailored to your specific needs and goals. These plans may include a combination of manual therapy techniques, therapeutic exercises and injury prevention strategies.
  • Manual Therapy: Hands-on techniques such as soft tissue mobilisation (such as Sports Massage), joint mobilisation techniques, and myofascial release are used to reduce pain, improve flexibility, and restore optimal function to affected muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints.
  • Exercise Rehabilitation: Targeted exercise programs are prescribed to address muscle imbalances, improve strength, flexibility, stability, and proprioception, facilitating the rehabilitation process and reducing the risk of future injuries.
  • Functional Rehabilitation: Our Sports Therapists focus on restoring functional movement patterns and sport-specific skills, incorporating dynamic movements and sport-specific drills to bridge the gap between rehabilitation and return to play.
  • Education and Prevention: We empower our clients with knowledge and skills to prevent recurrence of injury and optimise performance through proper warm-up, cool-down, biomechanics, ergonomics, nutrition, hydration, and recovery strategies.
