What to expect when you attend a Physiotherapy session at the Hampshire Wellbeing Centre

Musculoskeletal physiotherapy involves several key components to ensure a holistic and effective treatment plan:

Initial Assessment: Our physiotherapists begin with a thorough assessment to understand your condition. This includes taking a detailed medical history, performing physical examinations, and sometimes recommending diagnostic tests like X-rays or MRI.

The goal is to identify the root cause of your pain or dysfunction and to develop a tailored treatment plan.

Personalised Treatment Plans: Based on the assessment, our physiotherapists create a personalised treatment plan. This plan will address your specific needs and goals, ensuring that each session is productive and progressive.

Manual Therapy: Hands-on techniques such as joint mobilisation, manipulation, and soft tissue massage are employed to relieve pain, reduce stiffness, and enhance mobility. Our Therapists use their expertise to determine what techniques might be most effective and may apply them where appropriate to help optimise your rehabilitation.

Exercise Prescription: Exercise is a core component of physiotherapy. Customised exercise programs are designed to strengthen muscles, improve flexibility, and support joint function. Our physiotherapists guide you through exercises that can be performed both in the clinic, at home or at the exercise facility of your choice. These will either be written down, filmed on your phone or sent to you via our exercise prescription software

Pain Management: This is an important part of the support we provide to our patients and is achieved through a multitude of strategies and techniques. Education on pain management strategies is also provided, empowering you to control pain in your daily life.

Postural and Ergonomic Advice: Poor posture and improper ergonomics can contribute to musculoskeletal issues. Our physiotherapists offer advice on maintaining good posture, ergonomic setups for workspaces, and modifications to daily activities to help prevent pain or further injury.

Preventive Strategies: Rehabilitation exercises focus on regaining strength, coordination, and function after injury or surgery. Preventative strategies are also emphasised to reduce the risk of future injuries, including lifestyle modifications and maintenance exercises. We want you returning back to your daily activities, work or sport confident and fully ready.

Education and Support: Understanding your condition and the recovery process is crucial. We provide comprehensive education about your diagnosis, treatment options, and the expected progression of your recovery. Support and encouragement are integral parts of our care, ensuring you stay motivated and informed throughout your journey.

Communication with Healthcare Professionals: If you are attending prior to or following an investigation or surgery, with your consent we may communicate with other healthcare providers such as consultant surgeons, GP’s, personal trainers or psychologists to help optimise your care and help ensure a thorough rehabilitation process.
