Global cricketing giants return to Utilita Bowl in 2025
As the curtain closes on 2022, take a look back on some of the highlights from an special year at The Ageas Bowl
2022 saw the Hampshire Hawks progress to Vitality Blast Finals Day but go one better than last year, lifting the trophy for the first time since 2012 to become the joint most successful side in the competition's history.
England returned to The Ageas Bowl not once but twice in 2022, first taking on India and then South Africa later in the summer. Jos Buttler's side lost both fixtures against strong opposition before lifting the World T20 Trophy in November.
International cricket continued after the ICC WTC Final, as Eoin Morgan's England faced Sri Lanka in the final Vitality IT20 of a three-match series, with England winning the match and sealing the series.
2022 also saw the return of The Hundred, the newest and shortest domestic tournament in the UK. Southern Brave men competed in four successful matchdays at The Ageas Bowl, while the women played in two fixtures at home after the completion of the Commonwealth Games.
During The Hundred, Hampshire's future stars took centre stage in the Royal London Cup. Impressive performances from the whole team were crucial as Hampshire came top of their group but fell short at the semi-final stage.
The first-class arena was another positive for Hampshire. The team again came close to securing their first County Championship title since 1973 in 2022, eventually finishing third in the table behind Surrey and everpresent rivals Lancashire.
The Southern Vipers also added another piece of silverware to their growing collection, winning the Charlotte Edwards Cup, the trophy named after their head coach. The Vipers also reached the final of the 50-over Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy but fell just short of a three-peat at Lords.
The stars from London's West End once again visited the world-class venue to bring a spectacular two-night outdoor concert of Neil Diamond and Queen on back-to-back evenings.
And to round off the year, the venue's annual fireworks display occurred again after a successful presentation in 2021.
2023 is shaping up to be yet another exciting year at The Ageas Bowl.
