Hampshire batter Ella McCaughan has signed a new two-year deal
Opening batter Ella McCaughan has signed a two-year contract extension with Hampshire.
The new deal sees the 23-year-old stay at Utilita Bowl until at least the end of the 2028 season.
In 2025, she became the first woman to score a century in the Vitality Blast when she made 106 against Essex at Chelmsford.
Her first hundred came in Hampshire’s chase of 293 against Lancashire at Southport, where she made an unbeaten 133. She followed it up with a century against Essex at Chelmsford in 2026 when she and Maia Bouchier chased down 246 without loss.
This summer, to date, she has scored 710 runs with three fifties and one century.
I am very grateful that Hampshire have supported me all the way through my professional career so far, and the Utilita Bowl feels like home. We’re a young side, so to reach the knockouts in the Vitality Blast and One Day Cup is an incredible achievement, and hopefully we can go all the way this week. I’m really excited by what we’re building and look forward to being part of this dressing room for another two years as we aim to build on what we’ve already built this season and bring home some trophies.

McCaughan began her career as a teenager at Sussex, and made her professional debut for Southern Vipers, the regional team based at Utilita Bowl, in 2020, where she was part of the side that won the inaugural Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, the predecessor of the One-Day Cup.
With the Vipers, she went on to win five titles – three 50-over and two T20 trophies – including winning both in 2023.
Ella has developed into a wonderful batter and excellent fielder for the club following a breakout season last year. She’s been a stalwart at the top of the innings, and her many contributions to competitive team totals have been consistent and significant. To become the first woman to score a hundred in the Vitality Blast is an incredible achievement, and her three fifty-over centuries and eight cross-format half-centuries for the club over the past 18 months show the fruits of her effort and hard work over the years.

Last summer, McCaughan was named in an England A squad for the first time, for their series against New Zealand, and scored 112 runs against India A in 2026.
In franchise cricket, McCaughan has represented Southern Brave, Welsh Fire, and Manchester Super Giants in The Hundred, where she has scored 64 runs in 13 matches and finished runners-up with Welsh Fire in 2024.
She is also due to represent Toronto Sixes in the Canada Super 60, which takes place in Vancouver from September 29-October 4.
