England Pace Bowler Sonny Baker To Remain At Hampshire Until 2028
23-year-old fast bowler Sonny Baker has signed a two-year deal with Hampshire
Hampshire and England fast bowler Sonny Baker has signed a two-year contract extension, which sees him remain at Utilita Bowl until at least the end of the 2028 season.
Baker, 23, joined Hampshire in 2024 and has taken 46 wickets for the club in First-Class and T20 cricket.
His first matches for Hampshire came in the 2024 Global Super League in Guyana, before he made his County Championship debut against Yorkshire at Utilita Bowl in 2025 where he claimed the wicket of England batter Jonny Bairstow twice in the game.
Hampshire have been really good to me, not just the club as a whole but also the fans throughout the games have come to see me as one of their own which means a great deal to me. My main aims for this year were to earn the respect of the senior players by demonstrating more consistency in performance. I feel I’ve come a long way since last year, all thanks to the experiences I’ve had here. Long may it continue.

In just his second red-ball match for the club, he picked up his maiden First-Class five wicket haul, against then-County Champions Surrey at The Oval.
Baker had his first taste of Utilita Bowl in 2022 when he signed with Southern Brave in The Hundred, and his stocks have risen quickly, with international caps coming in white ball formats at the back end of 2025.
Sonny has established himself as a key member of the team, and it has been great to witness his development over the course of his time with us. In the Vitality Blast, Baker claimed 10 wickets in eight matches as Hampshire Hawks reached the final of the men’s competition for a record 11th time.
His best figures of 4/20 came against Glamorgan on home soil at Utilita Bowl.
Combined with his nine wickets in The Hundred for Manchester Originals, Baker earned an ODI debut against South Africa at Headingley and later featured against Ireland at Malahide, Dublin for his IT20 debut.
