England’s Record Against 2025 Opposition At Utilita Bowl

We delve into the stats behind England’s match record against their opposition who will visit Utilita Bowl next summer

Utilita Bowl has hosted 48 England matches since it’s international debut back in 2005, when it hosted the first-ever IT20 in the UK.

On that June day, ahead of the monumental Ashes series, England’s men trounced Australia by 100 runs, as the visitors from down under were skittled for 79 in response to the Three Lions’ 179.

Out of those 48 matches, England’s men and women have won 28 matches – a total of 58% - with 17 defeats and three drawn Test matches.

Fans attending England Men’s Metro Bank ODI against South Africa in September will be pleased to hear that England Men have a 64% win rate in ODIs at Utilita Bowl.

The team have played 22 ODIs at the venue, with 14 wins and eight defeats, with only two matches against South Africa resulting in the honours being even – one win for each side.

The last time the two sides took to the field at Utilita Bowl, Ben Stokes scored a magnificent century off just 77 balls before Liam Plunkett claimed 3-64.

Mark Wood then stole the show with a textbook display of death bowling which saw just four runs come from the final over as England won the match by two runs, and with it claimed the series.

England’s men have won eight out of their previous nine ODIs at Utilita Bowl, dating back to 2016.

West Indies, meanwhile, make their first visit to Utilita Bowl for an IT20 having played three ODIs between 2012 and 2019.

A format that can go either way, England’s men have a 50-50 win rate in IT20s at Utilita Bowl, with their last win coming in 2021 against Sri Lanka.

However, England’s men have an unbeaten record against West Indies in white ball cricket at Utilita Bowl, with the Three Lions winning all three ODIs played between the two sides.

The last time England and West Indies faced off at Utilita Bowl was in the 2019 World Cup, where Joe Root’s unbeaten century saw the eventual champions over the line after Jofra Archer and Mark Wood, who are both set to feature against West Indies in June, took three wickets each.

England’s women have played just eight times at Utilita Bowl, with only three being ODIs, as India visit the south coast in July.

Out of the three matches, England have won two – both coming against India back in 2006 – with a narrow three-run defeat to Australia in the Ashes last summer where Nat Sciver-Brunt’s century kept England in the hunt right to the final ball.

Turning the clock back to the mid-noughties, wickets were shared in the first England women’s match played in Southampton with four run outs inflicted on India, before 61 from Sarah Taylor and 46 from Jenny Gunn helped England over the line by three wickets.

The following day, India were skittled for 131 in 47.4 overs, with Isa Guha taking 3-22 before opener Laura Newton and Claire Taylor both surpassed 30, with Charlotte Edwards not out at the end to see England to victory by seven wickets.

England women’s Metro Bank ODI against India at Utilita Bowl on 16th July will be the first time in 19 years the two sides have met at the venue.

Overall, England’s women have won six out of their eight matches played at Utilita Bowl.
