Match Preview: Hampshire Women v Warwickshire, Metro Bank One-Day Cup
Hampshire Women host third-placed Warwickshire in a key match before the Vitality Blast returns
Four Vipers Academy players have been named in England Women’s U19s squad to play a tri-series against Australia and Sri Lanka.
Eliza Bristowe, Eve O’Neill, Mollie Adams – sister of Hampshire Women captain Georgia - and Shristi Patil will travel Down Under as part of a 16-player squad to take on Australia and Sri Lanka in March and April.
O’Neill, 17, has previously featured for England U19s. under the captaincy of Hampshire batter Abi Norgrove, in the second edition of the ICC Women’s U19 World Cup last winter where the Three Lions reached the semi-finals. She was also signed by Birmingham Phoenix for £15,000 in the recent Hundred auction.
We’ve worked with this group of players across the winter and the next stage of their development is to play competitive games of cricket against other nations. It will be nice to see the players put into practice areas that they have worked on through the winter both individually and as a team. It’s equally exciting to spend more time developing further through a really competitive tri-series against two good teams. Visiting Australia is always a good step forward in a player’s development, and it tests you out in new conditions. We’re really looking forward to it and it’s a trip that I’m sure will be hugely beneficial to the playing group.
Chris Guest, England Women U19 Head Coach
The team fly out today (Thursday 26 March) for six games, one 50-over game and two T20s against both the hosts and Sri Lanka.
