Match Preview: Hampshire Hawks v The Blaze & Middlesex, Vitality Blast Double Header
Hawks Men can guarantee a spot in the top two of the South Group, whilst Hawks Women require just one victory to reach Finals Day
The Hawks defeated the Pirates at the Incora County Ground in Derbyshire to claim the ECB Disability Premier League title on Wednesday (6th September), bringing the 2023 competition to an end.
It has been another successful year for disability cricket in England and Wales as four teams battled it out to become Premier League champions: the Black Cats, the Hawks, the Pirates and the Tridents.
A total of nine players – three of which captained their side – and one coach from Hampshire took part in the competition:
Black Cats
Hawks
Pirates
Tridents
Each team played the other twice in the group stage, with the top two advancing onto the final.
After three weekends of fixtures, it was Alex Hammond’s Hawks and Anthony Clapham’s Pirates that had qualified and would battle it out for the title.
A competitive match, with plenty of entertaining cricket on display, saw the Hawks chase down the Pirates total in 17.3 overs and crowned champions.
The DPL has offered a clear pathway for disabled cricketers and Hampshire Cricket Board offers sessions to young people in the surrounding area.
