Match Preview: Yorkshire v Hampshire Men, Metro Bank One-Day Cup
Hampshire Men begin their road to Trent Bridge with a trip to Scarborough to face the White Rose
Pace bowling duo Harry Petrie and Oliver Williams have signed short-term contracts with Hampshire Cricket.
Both players have come through the Hampshire pathway system and will join the club for the duration of the Metro Bank One-Day Cup.
Petrie, 23, was released from the club at the end of the 2023 season but re-joins following impressive performances for the Second XI this summer.
He is Hampshire’s leading wicket-taker in this year’s Second XI T20 competition, with 12 scalps, with best figures of 3/16 coming in Hampshire’s six-wicket win over Kent earlier this month.
Petrie made one First-Class appearance for Hampshire, against the touring Sri Lanka Development XI back in 2022; he claimed 3/48 as the match was drawn.

Harry Petrie re-joins Hampshire having previously been on a rookie contract
I’m really delighted to see the opportunity come up for Harry and Ollie to join our Metro Bank One-Day Cup squad. It has been well deserved for both, who have put in a lot of hard yards and many overs in our second team over the last few years. Harry has a long history with the club, having been on our Academy and signed as a young player, finishing in 2023 off the back of many injuries, so it’s fantastic for him to have worked back to this point and been given the opportunity by the club to show us that he’s fully fit and ready to compete in first team cricket.”

Ollie Williams joined the Hampshire Academy in 2025 and retained his place for this season.
He made his debut for the Second XI at the back end of the 2024 season but was a regular fixture in the team throughout 2026.
This summer, Williams has claimed 19 wickets in 17 matches for the Second XI, which includes figures of 3/7 in the team’s opening red ball match against Nottinghamshire in April.
He is also capable with the bat, having scored fifties in consecutive matches – 50* for the Second XI v Sussex and 61 for the Academy in the Southern Premier League – in May.

Ollie Williams has been part of the Hampshire Academy since 2024/25
Ollie joins as an Academy player, has shown huge resilience over the last few seasons, and has shown major improvements and earned his opportunity through excellent second team performances. It’s fantastic that the club are in a position to be able to offer both these lads One-Day Cup contracts and provide them with a platform in this competition, like many others have had down the years, to try and show that they are very capable and ready for first team cricket, maybe across formats, down the line and in the future. We are looking forward to another Metro Bank One-Day Cup campaign, having been very successful over the last three years in this format.
