Match Preview: Hampshire Hawks v The Blaze & Middlesex, Vitality Blast Double Header
Hawks Men can guarantee a spot in the top two of the South Group, whilst Hawks Women require just one victory to reach Finals Day
Hampshire Cricket are pleased to announce the signing of West Indian all-rounder Darren Sammy for the 2016 NatWest T20 Blast.
The big-hitting St Lucian, who is hugely experienced in the shorter format having played in all of the best T20 competitions across the world, will be available for until his Caribbean Premier League (CPL) commitments at the start of July.
Sammy’s first match at the The Ageas Bowl will be Hampshire’s NatWest T20 Blast clash against the Kent Spitfires on Thursday 2 June.
I love playing in the UK and I’m really excited to have signed with Hampshire. Hampshire have had strong T20 results in the past which I’m hoping will continue this coming summer. They also have a rich West Indian history which I’m looking forward to adding to the best I can. I can’t wait to meet my new team-mates in June.
Darren Sammy
The West Indies T20 captain is more than familiar with the T20 Blast after a big impact during a short stint with Nottinghamshire last season, averaging 41 with the bat in four matches.
More recently, the 32-year old featured in the Pakistan Super League, in a team captained by new Hampshire man Shahid Afridi, whilst this month he skippered the West Indies to an unbeaten start in the ICC World T20 in India.
We are very proud of our t20 record and hopefully Darren can contribute to another successful campaign. He's an explosive player and an infectious character which was what we were looking for; it will be great having him around.
