Hampshire's April Player Of The Month Announced

All-rounder Keith Barker has been voted Player of the Month for April by Hampshire fans, as part of a new vote presented in partnership with Domino's.

The left-hander secured 47.8% of the vote, beating second-placed Nick Gubbins by more than twice the number of votes.

Barker started the season with four wickets in the opening match against Somerset at The Ageas Bowl, as he helped Hampshire to victory by an innings and 113 runs – his ball to dismiss Steven Davies in with an early shout of being the ball of the season.

He then took another four wickets on a batting-friendly pitch against Surrey at The Oval before scoring a half-century in Hampshire’s first innings.

In the next game against Kent, he picked up his first five wicket haul of 2022 as he took 6-53 in 24 overs to help bowl the home side out for 305 on a flat deck in Canterbury, before picking up the key wicket of Ben Compton for 89 in the second innings.

Barker was also in the runs again, making 44* off just 36 balls as Hampshire declared on 652-6, paving the way for a second innings victory in three matches.

Most recently against Lancashire, Barker took a second five-for as the visitors were bowled out for 240, with the all-rounder picking up the wickets of Luke Wells, Josh Bohannon, Dane Vilas, Phil Salt, and Hassan Ali, before featuring again with the bat, hitting 40 runs as Hampshire batted Lancashire out of the game.
