The Ageas Bowl
The Ageas Bowl’s 2016 international calendar is set to kick off in style this Tuesday as the home of Hampshire Cricket plays host to a NatWest International T20 double-header.
It’s fair to say the The Ageas Bowl faithful will have everything crossed for when the men's teams are announced at 6:00pm on Tuesday. If selected, Hampshire all-rounder Liam Dawson will make his full England debut in-front of his home crowd and he could feature alongside team-mate James Vince, who also made the 13-man IT20 squad.
England’s squad, captained by Eoin Morgan, also includes two players who have yet to be capped at this level. Sussex pace bowler Tymal Mills, 23, was named having impressed for the Sussex Sharks in the early stages of the NatWest T20 Blast competition alongside big-hitting Middlesex batsman Dawid Malan.
England and Sri Lanka have only met once previously at the The Ageas Bowl in T20 International cricket – the tourists were the victors that day in June 2006 by just two runs.
The first match of the day will see England Women look to continue their fine record at the The Ageas Bowl. England have won four of the five international matches they have played at the home of Hampshire Cricket with Lydia Greenway’s 80 not out helping the side to a series victory over Australia in their last match in August 2013.
Head Coach Mark Robinson has named a 15-strong squad for their NatWest International T20 series against Pakistan. Led by new skipper Heather Knight, England’s batsmen in particular will head into the series full of confidence having amassed over 900 runs across the three 50-over clashes against Pakistan. The squad also includes 17-year old left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone and Southern Vipers seamer Tash Farrant.
