Hampshire Men go into the final month of the season with Division One safety their main aim.
They currently sit 16 points behind Leicestershire in ninth, and 19 points behind Surrey in eighth and safe from the drop.
Ben Brown’s side had a good outing against Glamorgan in their last match – which ended just two days ago on Sunday 30th August.
Jake Lehmann reached yet another half-century, whilst Toby Albert recorded fifties in back-to-back matches. All-rounder Andrew Neal impressed with a 20-ball 47 in the second innings, as Hampshire set Glamorgan 302 to win in two sessions.
Sonny Baker shone with four wickets in the first innings, whilst Kyle Abbott’s five wickets in the match take him to a tally of 49 for the season, but rain fell an hour into the afternoon session to put a stop to Hampshire’s charge for victory, and the team secured 11 points from the match.
Warwickshire struggled against table-toppers Nottinghamshire at Edgbaston in their last fixture.
Ethan Bamber continued his excellent season with three for 74, but the reigning champions put on 325 for eight and declared to stop the Bears securing a third bowling point.
In reply, the hosts failed to claim any batting points as they were bowled out for just 185, with number nine Michael Booth top scoring with 46.
The last time the two teams met was at Edgbaston last May, where Hampshire completed a convincing 89-run win over the Bears, thanks to James Fuller’s run-a-ball half-century in the first innings, and five-for in the fourth.
Now the season has reached September, all Rothesay County Championship matches now start at 10:30am.

Key winter moves: Warwickshire have acted decisively to strengthen a senior seam-bowling department which has leaned far too heavily on the excellent Olly Hannon-Dalby for too long. Jordan Thompson has arrived from Yorkshire and Nathan Gilchrist from Kent. Keith Barker returned from Hampshire but has since announced his retirement from the game. With Chris Woakes having retired from international cricket, the pace attack has an appealing depth, allowing for rotation to help keep all its members fit.
What we’re looking forward to seeing: The Edgbaston faithful are looking forward to seeing Chris Woakes back in the Bears fold – the all-rounder has played just 12 Rothesay County Championship matches in the last nine seasons. Woakes’ appetite for the game remains high, and he is hungry to make a big contribution to his beloved county.
Aiming to catch Test selectors’ eye: Ed Barnard – the all-rounder has hugely impressed in all departments since moving across from Worcestershire, and more of the same must surely be rewarded with a call-up. He was also appointed captain just before the start of the season.
Final thought: Warwickshire’s squad enters the 2026 season in better shape than for several years. After all the recent transition, fifth in the Championship in 2025 was a decent effort in Ian Westwood’s first year as head coach. With some stability and experience in the ranks, and the transformed seam attack, his second could bring a serious challenge for honours.
