Essex
Captain: Tom Westley
County champions in 2017 and 2019, Essex have been one of the strongest red-ball teams in the country for a number of years. Last season they finished in second place, 20 points behind Surrey and go into the final five matches of this season in a good position. Essex are currently third with 128 points from their first nine matches.
With the bat, Dean Elgar and Jordan Cox lead the way with 767 and 763 runs, while the likes of Paul Walter, Matt Critchley and Nick Browne have also been impressive. The bowling attack has also been a dangerous unit for the past few seasons. Jamie Porter, Sam Cook and Shane Snater are all around the 30-wicket mark already and are backed up by the spin of Simon Harmer and Critchley.
