Match Preview: Southern Vipers v Western Storm & Surrey Stars v Southern Vipers, Kia Super League
The Southern Vipers look to continue their unbeaten start to this year's Kia Super League against Western Storm on Sunday and Surrey Stars on Monday
Back-to-back victories against Lancashire Thunder and Loughborough Lightning to begin the Kia Super League campaign has ensured a strong start to the season for the Southern Vipers, and they’ll be looking to continue that good form when they face Western Storm at the The Ageas Bowl on Sunday and then Surrey Stars on Monday at the Oval.
Southern Vipers Squad:
An unchanged 15-strong squad has been named for both fixtures.
Danni Wyatt continued her good form last time out against the Lightning, striking 40 off 33 balls to go with her brilliant half-century at the top of the order in the competition curtain-raiser against the Thunder. She’s also proved to be more than useful with the ball, offering a good spin option for Tammy Beaumont’s side. Stafanie Taylor has been equally impressive with both bat and ball, totalling 78 runs with the bat and claiming two wickets in economical spells across the opening fixtures.
The Opposition:
Western Storm
A dominant seven wicket win against Loughborough Lightning saw the Western Storm begin their competition on the front foot.
Last year’s beaten semi-finalists boast a strong squad which features England captain Heather Knight along with her Three Lions teammate Fran Wilson. Powerful Indian batsman Smriti Mandhana leads a strong top-order which also features experienced New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter Rachel Priest and the visitors won’t be short of dangers with both bat and ball when they visit the snake pit on Sunday.
Surrey Storm
After claiming last year's competition crown, Surrey Stars have begin their 2019 campaign in great form, picking up victories in both of their first two contests.
Boasting a strong squad including England's Nat Sciver, Laura Marsh and wicket-keeper Sarah Taylor, and with overseas stars Dane van Niekerk and Lizelle Smith also featuring, the Stars have plenty of talent to call upon this summer.
