Metro Bank One Day Cup
Wednesday 15 April (10:30am start)
Edgbaston, Birmingham
Hampshire Women will head to Edgbaston for their second fixture in this year’s Metro Bank One Day Cup.
Led by Naomi Dattani, Hampshire got over the line in a thrilling victory over Essex at Utilita Bowl on Saturday as the Rose and Crown chased down 266 with just two balls to spare.
Linsey Smith and skipper Dattani starred with the ball, taking two wickets each, whilst Amanda-Jade Wellington picked up a wicket on her return to the club.
Ella McCaughan then picked up where she left off in 2025, making 90 in her first professional match since her Vitality Blast century against the same opposition last June.
Abi Norgrove made a career-best 85 as she and McCaughan put on 147 for the second wicket, with fireworks from Freya Kemp (46 off 43) and an unbeaten 25 off 18 from Dattani saw Hampshire over the line.
Warwickshire were defeated in their opening game as they were put to the sword by a strong Surrey side.
Ex-Hampshire player Mary Taylor took three wickets in her Bears debut, with two for Amu Surenkumar, but the Three Feathers posted a mammoth 389/9 – the highest score ever in the women’s Metro Bank One Day Cup.
The Bears posted what would normally be a match-winning total of 337/9, with 90 from Emily Arlott, 59 from Surenkumar, and 40s for Issy Wong and Katie George, but the damage was done in the first innings as the Bears fell short by 52 runs at Edgbaston.
Hampshire have named a 14-player squad for their opening Metro Bank One Day Cup match of the season.
Georgia Adams returns, having missed the season opener through injury.
Maia Bouchier, Lauren Bell, Freya Kemp, and Linsey Smith are all with England on a training camp and are therefore unavailable.
Scotland wicket keeper Pippa Sproul joins the squad along with pace bowler Hannah Hardwick and all-rounder Nancy Harman, who all featured for Hampshire's 2nd XI against Essex on Monday.

Winter moves: The Bears have signed all-rounders Mary Taylor from Hampshire and Alex Stonehouse on loan from Surrey, while spinner Phoebe Brett has signed her first rookie contract. Aussie wicketkeeper-batter Georgia Redmayne, signed for the T20 tournament, will play three 50-over games before the Vitality Blast.
The big question: Can Warwickshire translate their impressive 20-over cricket from last season into the longer format? Having signed players who will strengthen the team in all departments and, crucially, bring experience to what is still a largely young squad, the Bears have the potential to challenge in the longer game in 2026.
Player to watch: Phoebe Brett – the 17-year-old left-armer is the latest addition to a spin attack of enviable depth and variety, and impressed when her opportunities came along last season. Her control and wicket-taking skills have drawn comparison with Sophie Ecclestone.
Final thought: Last season, Warwickshire found themselves playing catch-up too often as the powerplays at the start of each innings went against them. Their skills shone in the T20. Taking wickets up front with the ball and not losing wickets in the powerplay has been a big focus in the pre-season preparation.
