On This Day: Adams, Vince & Bailey Make Hay

Top order trio all pass 100 against Surrey in the County Championship at the Kia Oval in 2017

3 July 2020

Hampshire Cricket's historian Dave Allen takes a look back on timely memorable moments in his ‘On This Day’ series.

Jimmy Adams (144), James Vince (104) & George Bailey (161) - Surrey v Hampshire, County Championship: 3rd July 2017

Hampshire - on this day in 2017 - travelled to the Kia Oval to face Surrey in the County Championship, before the competition took a mid-season mini-break to make way for the T20 Blast.

James Vince won the toss, elected to bat and it proved a shrewd decision.

Before day one was through both Vince (104) and Adams (144) had passed centuries and George Bailey (161) was well on the way to his.

Hampshire eventually declared at 648-7 with Ervine (83) and Holland (58*) also contributing.

Surrey made 483 all-out in reply and the match eventually finished a draw with Surrey 166-3 when following on.
