Hampshire Cricket's historian Dave Allen takes a look back on timely memorable moments in his ‘On This Day’ series.
Hampshire (177-3) v Sussex Sharks (171-8), T20 Blast, The Ageas Bowl: 18 July 2014
Since their success in 2010, Hampshire had built a reputation as one of the stronger T20 sides but despite a number of good victories in 2014, they came to this match on the back of three defeats in four games.
Vince won the toss and batted, but was immediately dismissed by Hatchett for two, followed by Maxwell at 8-2. Adams and Carberry then took control of the situation adding 111 before Adams (52 from 34 balls) was the third and final Hampshire wicket that day.
Ervine plundered 32 runs from 14 balls with two sixes but throughout Carberry was the star with 87* from 63 balls with five fours and five sixes.

Hampshire closed on a strong 177-3 but Nash and Wright opened with 69 in the first six overs before Briggs bowled Nash and with 4-28 put Hampshire on top.
With six overs remaining, Sussex were 122-7, needing 56 from six overs, but with Wright still going well. Magoffin helped him add 39 before Coles ran him out, so that with seven balls left Sussex needed 17 to win.
Wright scored 116* from 66 balls but could not get his team home and Hampshire won by six runs. They made it to the quarter-finals and Finals Day, but on another damp day in Birmingham, lost to Lancashire.
