Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy Rewind: Bouchier Blasts Eliminator Half-Century

Maia Bouchier scored 51, including six fours, against South East Stars at Beckenham as the Vipers sailed through to the RHFT Final after a six-wicket win

With the 2022 season now firmly in the rear-view mirror, we're taking a look back at some of the performances that caught the eye throughout Southern Vipers' Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy campaign.

After a defeat to rivals Northern Diamonds at Headingley, the Vipers were sent to Beckenham to play third-placed South East Stars in the eliminator to decided who was to go to Lord’s.

After a strong bowling display from the Vipers in which Tara Norris took 3-29, Finty Trussler took 2-12, and debutant Mary Taylor took 2-22, the Vipers were set 140 to win.

Maia Bouchier was quick out of the blocks in her new role as an opener for the Vipers, as she drove England U19’s Alexa Stonehouse down the ground for four.

The England batter took a liking to the left armer, as she found the middle of the bat twice in an over, the ball once again sailing back past the pacer.

Another straight drive followed in the sixth over when Bouchier used her feet, and the Vipers went to 24 without loss.

A change of bowling slowed things down for Bouchier and the Vipers, but she was back in business with a clip for four off another England U19 player in Ryana Macdonald-Gay before the seamer dropped short, and Bouchier pulled the ball for four.

The fifty partnership was brought up with a drive from Bouchier, and she brought up her half-century just before the opening stand reached 100.

She was bowled for 51, somewhat unfortunately getting a bottom edge off a pull shot, but she and Ella McCaughan had set up the innings for the Vipers, and they went on to win by six wickets.
