With the 2022 season now firmly in the rear-view mirror, we're taking a look back at some of the performances that caught the eye throughout Southern Vipers' Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy campaign.
After the bowlers skittled South East Stars for only 139 at Beckenham, it was the turn of the batters to complete the job and send the Vipers into their third consecutive Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy final.
Opener Ella McCaughan was cautious to start, getting off the mark in the fourth over, whilst Maia Bouchier was the aggressor.
The 20-year-old picked up her first boundary off England’s Freya Davies with a well-controlled drive through the covers for four.
She then found her groove as she cut England U19s Ryana Macdonald-Gay for four, teasing the fielder right the way to the boundary rope.
The fifty partnership was brought up in the 13th over before McCaughan tucked in to a short ball from Phoebe Franklin as she rocked back and pulled through midwicket.
Another pull shot followed off Eva Gray, along with some fancy footwork allowing her to smash Dani Gregory down the ground, as the opening stand neared 100.
McCaughan brought up the Vipers’ hundred with a flick off her hips, before she came down the track to turn a full ball from England’s Bryony Smith into a full toss, and the ball went sailing over the bowler’s head for another boundary.
The young opener tried the same again the very next ball but could only find Freya Davies at long on, and she was dismissed three runs shy of what would’ve been her second Vipers fifty of the year.
