Southern Vipers Announce Playing Squad For 2019 Kia Super League

A 15-strong Southern Vipers squad has been named for this summer's Kia Super League campaign

The Southern Vipers are pleased to announce a playing squad of 15 ahead of this year’s Kia Super League campaign. England trio Tammy Beaumont, Danni Wyatt and Tash Farrant all return once again for 2019 with Beaumont assuming the role as captain for the first time.

Experienced New Zealand all-rounder Suzie Bates also returns to the The Ageas Bowl for her fourth KSL campaign, having been a prominent feature of the side since the inaugural title-winning season in 2016.

Two new overseas players join the squad with West Indian superstar Stafanie Taylor and Australian all-rounder Sophie Molineux set to line-up for the The Ageas Bowl-based side.

Sophie is one of the most exciting young players in the world - she’s dominated the WBBL and won the World T20 with Australia in the West Indies and she’s still only 21.

Stafanie is the number one all-rounder in world cricket and her record speaks for itself, we’re very lucky to have secured their signings for this year’s KSL.

Charlotte Edwards, Director of Women's Cricket

Alongside Taylor & Molineux, three other new additions join the set-up this year with Marie Kelly, Thea Brookes and Issy Wong all included.

The trio were all part of Birmingham Bears’ victorious T20 winning side this season, with Wong one of the most exciting fast-bowling prospects in the country and Kelly and Brookes bringing skill and experience to the squad.

Charlie Dean, Maia Bouchier, Lauren Bell, Carla Rudd, Paige Scholfield and Fi Morris all return to the side this year.

We have assembled a really strong squad this year with some fantastic international and domestic pedigree. With three players from Birmingham Bears’ T20 winning side and individuals who have performed well for their counties this summer, we have a lot of players in good form, and our England and international players also add some real star quality to the group. I am delighted Tammy has agreed to lead the side too - she is a natural leader and this is the perfect stage for her to show those qualities.

I would also like to thank and congratulate Arran Brindle and Sara McGlashan on their careers and for their contribution to the Vipers over the last three seasons, their professionalism has been outstanding and they have been real standard setters across the squad. It's going to be a very exciting summer.

Nick Denning, Southern Vipers Head Coach

After the success of last year’s expanded Kia Super League, all six teams, including the The Ageas Bowl-based Southern Vipers, will once again play each other home and away in 2019.

The Southern Vipers will get this summer’s campaign underway at Liverpool as they take on Lancashire Thunder on Sunday 6th August before another away fixture against Loughborough Lightning on Thursday 8th August.

The opening home match of the competition will see Western Storm visit the The Ageas Bowl on Sunday 11th August followed by a trip to the Kia Oval to face reigning 2018 Champions Surrey Stars just 24 hours later.

Hove and Arundel will then host two home matches against Lancashire Thunder (Thursday 15th August) and Surrey Stars (Sunday 18th August), before away fixtures against Western Storm at Bristol (Tuesday 20th August) and Yorkshire Diamonds (Sunday 25th August).

The final two home contests at the The Ageas Bowl will see Beaumont’s side welcome Yorkshire Diamonds (Wednesday 21st August) and Loughborough Lightning (Wednesday 28th August) to finish the group-stage. This year's KSL Finals Day will then again be hosted by Sussex at the 1st Central County Ground in Hove on Sunday 1st September.
