Thank You, Jimmy
Club stalwart Jimmy Adams will leave Hampshire Cricket having spent over two decades with the Rose and Crown
After 25 years at Hampshire Cricket, club stalwart Jimmy Adams has confirmed his departure.
He will take up a new coaching opportunity in Australia with Tasmania, having been part of the Hampshire coaching set-up for nearly ten years.
Adams, 46, made his debut for Hampshire in 2001 and went on to become one of the club’s most prolific run-scorers in the modern era. He played 462 matches for Hampshire across all formats, scoring 19,723 runs with 27 centuries and 112 fifties.

The opening batter’s playing career spanned 17 years, during which he captained the side from 2012-15 and lifted five trophies with the club, including Hampshire’s white-ball double in 2012.
Following his retirement as a player in 2018, he coached the men’s Second XI before being appointed as the lead batting coach in 2022.
In his first year in the role, Hampshire Hawks won the 2022 men’s Vitality Blast, and under his stewardship during the 2025 Metro Bank One Day Cup, he led the team to the final, where Hampshire narrowly finished runners-up.
I’ve been lucky enough to fulfil a dream, and I’ll be following Hampshire for the rest of my life. I’m going to an exciting, new challenge, but I don’t see it as an end, and I’ll be following Hampshire and wishing the guys well. It’s been a tough decision to leave, but I think the timing’s right, and it gives me a chance to test myself elsewhere. I want to give a big thank you to everyone for their support over the years, especially Giles and the coaches and players I’ve had the privilege of working with, and I’ll be coming back to support the team and see everyone in the not too distant future.
Jimmy Adams

Born in Winchester, Adams came through the Hampshire pathway and made his First XI debut aged 20 in 2001.
He scored his first half-century during the 2003 County Championship with his first hundred – an unbeaten 168 against Yorkshire – to follow in 2006, along with a career-best 262 not out against Nottinghamshire in the same year.
His first trophy as a player came in 2009 as he helped the club lift the Friends Provident Trophy, and he followed it up with the 2010 Friends Provident T20 Trophy, which Hampshire won for the first time on their home ground.
We’re sad to see Jimmy Adams leave, but delighted for him and the Adams family as they embark on an exciting new opportunity in Australia with Tasmania. A fantastic player, captain and coach for the Club over 25 years, Jimmy has embodied our values throughout his time here. His incredible work ethic and selfless approach have been evident in every role he has undertaken, and he will be greatly missed. We wish Jimmy and the Adams family every success and happiness and look forward to welcoming him back in the future.
Giles White, Director of Cricket
In 2012, Adams was part of the teams that won both the Friends Life T20 and CB40 Trophy to complete a double of white-ball trophies; he was Hampshire’s second-leading run-scorer on the way to the T20 victory, and top-scored for Hampshire with 66 in the CB40 Final against Warwickshire at Lord’s, which earned him Player of the Match.
Adams has also been involved in two of Hampshire’s largest-ever partnerships. In 2011, Adams and Michael Carberry put on 373 against Somerset at Taunton, and partnered with Sean Ervine in 2017 for 367 against Warwickshire at Utilita Bowl.
