Global cricketing giants return to Utilita Bowl in 2025
2022 Vitality Blast champions Hampshire Hawks begin their 2023 T20 campaign at Taunton against Somerset on Wednesday 24th May.
We are counting down the days until the Hawks’ title defence begins and today marks exactly 100 days until then. When the Hawks welcomed 2021 winners Kent Spitfires to The Ageas Bowl in last year’s Vitality Blast, skipper James Vince made a 54-ball century to guide his team to victory.
Kent elected to field first, having won the toss, and made a bright start as the Hawks found themselves 15/1 after four overs.
Vince and young Tom Prest then began to push the Hawks’ innings on with a 128-run partnership which only ended with the latter departing on 52.
The captain went on to make his century in the 18th over before he was caught on a score of exactly 100 from 54 balls. His innings included nine fours and five maximums.
Some late hitting from Joe Weatherley (26 from 14) and Ross Whiteley (23 from 6) pushed the Hawks total up to 221/3 – the third highest Hampshire total in a T20 match.
The visitors never looked like chasing the total down and, after all five Hawks’ bowlers took wickets, fell 54 runs short from their 20 overs.
