Baker & Dawson Named In England IT20 Squad For India Series

Hampshire duo Sonny Baker and Liam Dawson have been named in England’s 17-player squad for the upcoming Vitality IT20 series against India.

The five-match series gets underway on 1 July at Chester-le-Street before concluding at Utilita Bowl on 11 July.

Fast bowler Baker earns a return to the England T20 squad after his debut against Ireland last year. The 23-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough season with Hampshire and was handed his England Test debut against New Zealand at The Oval last week.

Baker claimed three wickets in the match and still remains one of England’s most exciting fast-bowling prospects.

Joining Baker in the squad is Hampshire legend Liam Dawson, who continues to prove his value as one of England’s most reliable T20I performers. The left-arm spinner played a key role in England’s run to the semi-finals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India earlier this year, claiming 10 wickets in eight matches while maintaining his trademark control and keeping things tight.

Dawson has represented England in 32 T20 Internationals, claiming 32 wickets at an economy rate of 7.76.

We have selected a larger squad to accommodate for the fact that this series will begin shortly after the Test series against New Zealand is due to conclude which allows us to be flexible.”

Marcus North, England Men’s National Selector

The IT20 series against India begins on Wednesday 1 July at Banks Homes Riverside before fixtures in Manchester, Nottingham and Bristol, before the series concludes at Utilita Bowl on Saturday 11 July.
