Former Sussex Girls Academy Head Coach to lead on delivery of Regional programme as the new elite domestic structure continues to take shape
Southern Vipers, on behalf of the South Central Region can announce that former Sussex Women’s Assistant Coach, Ian Cox is to take up the role of Senior Regional Talent Manager for the South Central Region.
After starting his new position just two weeks ago, Cox will work across County boundaries and in conjunction with the National Talent Manager, their Regional Director of Women’s Cricket (RDoWC) and County contacts to connect players and programmes to the new elite domestic structure within their Region and the England Women’s Cricket Pathway (EWCP).
Cox’s first task will be to build relations with the Performance Leads across the 7 “Viper Territory” counties and to orchestrate & undertake a period of Viper Academy assessments to all those nominated from across the region ahead of a January Academy launch.
I’m absolutely thrilled and can’t wait to get started in the new SRTM role, it’s clear to me that the Southern Vipers culture and the people involved within the organisation will ensure an outstanding environment that will enable everyone to thrive and develop.
The women’s game is moving forward quickly so to have the opportunity to work with the most talented and high potential players throughout our region is extremely exciting.

The introduction of the new Women’s Elite Domestic Structure is part of the ten-point Action Plan for Transforming Women’s and Girls’ Cricket launched by the ECB in October 2019. Hampshire Cricket, in partnership with Sussex Cricket, will undertake the regional hosting responsibilities and will look to drive performance, pathway and participation.
When we went to market to secure the right candidate for such an integral role within our elite domestic structure, we aspired to secure a person who offered knowledge, experience, enthusiasm, communicative ability, innovation, integrity and a passion to develop & support others toward them achieving their goals. In Ian Cox we have that candidate.
He lives and breathes the game and in my opinion, for many years, has consistently demonstrated best practise as an engaging and forward thinking lead coach within the Women & Girls game. I feel lucky to have him on board as Senior Regional Talent Manager and I am confident that the Southern Vipers Academy & all counties within our southern central region will reap the benefits of his involvement accordingly.
