Match Preview: Hampshire v Warwickshire - Specsavers County Championship

Hampshire return to the The Ageas Bowl to take on Warwickshire in the latest instalment of Specsavers County Championship action

Following back-to-back defeats against Essex and Somerset in the last two Specsavers County Championship fixtures, Hampshire will be looking to bounce back to form when they face Warwickshire at the The Ageas Bowl on Sunday.

Sam Northeast’s side moved back to fourth place after the result at Taunton, and with six four-day matches remaining this season, the squad will be striving to secure a haul of points against the visitors.

Hampshire Squad:

A 14-man squad has been named for Hampshire's return to the The Ageas Bowl, with nine of the XI that lined-up against Somerset included once again.

Lewis McManus is added to the squad in place of Tom Alsop who suffered a hamstring injury against Somerset. Joe Weatherley also misses out after picking up an injury at Taunton with Gareth Berg, Ian Holland, Felix Organ and Aneurin Donald all in contention for selection.

James Vince and Liam Dawson remain unavailable for selection due to their international commitments with England.

The Opposition:

After a slow start to begin their 2019 campaign, Warwickshire’s improved run of form has seen them move into seventh place and 33 points clear of bottom-placed Nottinghamshire.

Victory against Yorkshire as well as a positive draw against Kent last time out has lifted the confidence of Jeetan Patel’s side with just one loss coming in their last three contests. Dom Sibley has been crucial to their efforts so far this year, totaling 922 runs at an average of 70.92 at the top of the order – including a knock of 244 last time out – and he’ll be vital to their chances of securing a positive result at the The Ageas Bowl.

Patel has been equally impressive with the ball, claiming 45 wickets at less than 20 runs apiece in his side’s eight matches so far.
