The curtain raises on the women’s regional season at The Ageas Bowl on the morning of Saturday 22nd April when two-time Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy winners Southern Vipers take on a Sunrisers side that is going from strength to strength.
The two sides contested a low-scoring thriller at The Ageas Bowl the last time they met, when now ex-Viper Paige Scholfield and newly contracted Chloe Hill helped the Vipers recover from 38-5 to 143-6.
Both players scored their maiden half-centuries for the Vipers, before a Charlie Dean 3-for helped restrict the visitors to 222, 12 runs shy of what would’ve been their first-ever win in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.
The Vipers’ pre-season has been something of a damp squib, as the side played in an intra-squad friendly on Tuesday 18th April after their scheduled match against Western Storm was cancelled, although several Vipers did get a competitive outing in the Women’s County Championship.
Sunrisers meanwhile completed five victories in their pre-season, with England U19 captain Grace Scrivens scoring two centuries, one of which against South East Stars where no other Sunrisers player reached double figures.
Southern Vipers Squad
Southern Vipers have named a 14-player squad for their opening match.
Georgia Adams leads a squad with six current and former England players, and 12 current professionals, meaning the Vipers can field a fully professional XI for the first time in the Club's history.
All-rounder Freya Kemp and batter Emily Windsor are both unavailable due to injury.
