Hampshire Men are back in action on the road in the Metro Bank One Day Cup as they face Worcestershire Rapids at Visit Worcestershire New Road following a defeat against Middlesex at Utilita Bowl.
Hampshire suffered their first defeat of the Metro Bank One Day Cup campaign with Middlesex victorious at Utilita Bowl by 160 runs.
A stellar all-round performance from Josh de Caires saw him score 75 when opening the batting, before taking six for 35 in a late procession of wickets that subjected Hampshire to their first defeat in the One Day Cup this season.
New signing Ashutosh Sharma was the standout performer for the Rose and Crown. He claimed his career best bowling of four for 54 with smart changes of pace to dismiss the middle order of Middlesex's batters.
Worcestershire are determined to retain their Metro Bank One Day Cup title and got off to a flying start with a three wicket victory over Derbyshire Falcons on Friday.
Fateh Singh's career best figures of six for 32 runs dismantled the Derbyshire batting order and spearheaded the reigning champions to an opening win in their Metro Bank One Day Cup campaign.
This match is a repeat of the Metro Bank One Day Cup final between these two sides, where Worcestershire Rapids emerged victors by three wickets (DLS method) at Trent Bridge in September last year.
Ali Orr’s 110 from 130 balls was not enough for the Rose and Crown as Worcestershire targeted 188 from 27 overs and despite Scott Currie achieving his best List A bowling figures of five for 34, the Rapids got over the line and won the One Day Cup.
Hampshire have named a 14-player squad for their men’s Metro Bank One-Day Cup match against Worcestershire.
Toby Albert and James Fuller return to the squad, while Kyle Abbott misses out. Brad Wheal and John Turner remain injured.

Why they can win the competition: They know how to. They won it last season by playing some excellent cricket to reach the final and then showing the strength and skills to win a very tight final with the pressure on.
Player to watch: Fateh Singh. Left out for most of the Blast due to the Rapids signing overseas spinners Sikandar Raza and Usama Mir, Singh took three for 17 when given his belated chance after Raza departed on international duty. He will be mustard keen to send a message or two to the team-selectors.
Young gun: Dan Lategan. Not yet UK-qualified, the 20-year-old opening batter was omitted from the Blast team as the overseas slots went to the spinners. Will be looking to pile up runs to go into the red-ball resumption with momentum high.
Final thought: Last season’s triumph at Trent Bridge was one of the most emotional in county cricket history, a success in tribute to Josh Baker who tragically passed away in 2024. Josh’s legacy lives on through the JB33 Foundation – retaining the trophy would again be very special.
