PSL Preview

Ahead of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), we have looked at the Hampshire players who will be involved

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) begins on Monday 13th February with the opening game taking place in Multan between Multan Sultans and Lahore Qalanders. We have taken a look at which Hampshire players have made their way to Pakistan to take part in the eighth edition of the tournament.

Liam Dawson – Lahore Qalanders

All-rounder Liam Dawson, who represented Islamabad United in the 2022 competition, has joined current champions Lahore Qalanders. Dawson played in seven games for Islamabad last year scoring 107 runs, at an average of 17.83, and taking nine wickets. His best performance came when he took figures of 3-16 against Multan Sultans, while he almost scored the winning runs in the Eliminator against Peshawar Zalmi.

Islamabad were defeated in the second Eliminator by Dawson’s new side, the Qalanders, who went on to beat the Sultans to claim their first PSL title.

The Qalanders play in the tournament’s first game in 2023, taking on Multan Sultans on Monday 13th February.

James Vince & James Fuller – Karachi Kings

2020 champions, Karachi Kings, picked up two Hampshire players in the PSL Draft – skipper James Vince and James Fuller. The latter has played for three different PSL side, across six different tournaments. 2023 will see Vince return to Karachi Kings where he spent the inaugural 2016 competition. In 2022, Vince played six times for Quetta Gladiators scoring 107 runs.

Fuller, on the other hand, has never played in the PSL and has experienced his first taste of franchise cricket throughout the winter, off the back of a successful domestic season in 2022.

Vince and Fuller’s Kings take on Peshawar Zalmi in their first match of the 2023 tournament on Tuesday 14th February.
