Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy Rewind: Adams Ends The Season On A High

Captain Georgia Adams led the way with 70 in the final of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy at Lord’s

With the 2022 season now firmly in the rear-view mirror, we're taking a look back at some of the performances that caught the eye throughout Southern Vipers' Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy campaign.

Having gotten off to a slow start in their chase at Lord’s, it was down to Maia Bouchier and captain Georgia Adams to get the Vipers as close as possible to their target of 216.

Adams picked up her first boundary in the 24th over as spinner Emma Marlow strayed onto her legs, and the Vipers skipper clipped the ball round the corner to the rope.

Scoring consistently, albeit not heavily, Adams brought up her half-century in the 41st over, off 77 balls and after more than an hour and a half at the crease, as the Vipers needed 56 runs from the final ten overs.

After the loss of Dean, Adams began to up the ante, smashing a full toss from Marlow to the deep midwicket boundary to bring up her second four.

The next over against Leigh Kasperek, Adams came down the track and swept the New Zealander for another boundary – the Vipers now needed 34 runs from 26 balls.

Tensions were running high in both camps, as the scores crept ever closer.

With 13 balls to go, Adams was beaten by a ball from Katie Levick, and Lauren Winfield-Hill whipped off the bails with the Vipers needing 20 more runs for victory.

Paige Scholfield, Tara Norris, Chloe Hill, Lauren Bell and Charlotte Taylor all chipped in, but the Vipers ultimately fell just two runs short of their third consecutive Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy title.
