With the 2022 season now firmly in the rear-view mirror, we're taking a look back at some of the performances that caught the eye throughout Southern Vipers' Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy campaign.
After the Diamonds were restricted to 215-9 in their 50 overs at Lord’s, it was down to the Vipers to chase it down to win their third consecutive Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.
Some tight bowling from the team in blue kept the Vipers to just 18-2 at the end of the powerplay after 10 overs, with both Ella McCaughan and Georgia Elwiss back in the pavilion.
Maia Bouchier, along with captain Georgia Adams, set about rebuilding the innings.
The England batter danced down the track to a full toss from spinner Emma Marlow to pick up her first boundary, as the Vipers began to up the run rate.
The Vipers’ fifty came and went, and Bouchier once again used her feet to the barrage of spin from Northern Diamonds as experienced leg spinner Katie Levick saw the ball fly right back past her.
Boucher then advanced once again, to Leigh Kasperek this time, and launched the New Zealand tweaker over mid off towards the red brick Lord’s pavilion.
The duo of Bouchier and Adams then brought up a fifty partnership when the former pulled a short ball from Kasperek to the Mound Stand for four.
A sweep shot off the New Zealander followed to end the 20th over to take the Vipers to 76-2, needing another 140 from 30 overs to seal victory.
However, some tight bowling from the Diamonds spinners put the pressure back on the Vipers, and Bouchier was dismissed just two runs shy of a half-century.
