Schools Takeover Returns To Utilita Bowl
Schools Takeover will take place on 17th June when Hampshire Hawks take on Surrey in a men’s and women’s double header
With the 2022 season now firmly in the rear-view mirror, we're taking a look back at some of the performances that caught the eye throughout Southern Vipers' Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy campaign.
With a sombre mood in the air, not just at The Ageas Bowl, but around the country, as the nation mourned the loss of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, cricket carried on.
Both the Vipers and Thunder teams wore black armbands, and partook in a minute’s silence before the game to remember the late monarch.
Thunder’s Ellie Threlkeld won the toss and chose to bat first, and were bowled out for 203, as Tara Norris took 3-42, with Paige Scholfield and Georgia Adams picking up a couple of wickets each.
After the loss of a few early wickets, Windsor walked out to bat with the score on 71-4, but the Vipers soon lost Paige Scholfield for 31 with the score now standing at 100-5.
The Portsmouth-born batter was off the mark second ball, when she drove an overpitched ball from Emma Lamb through the covers for four.
She then took a liking to Lamb as she utilised her favourite cut shot to bring up another boundary before guiding a ball from fellow spinner Hannah Jones down to third.
After a quiet period of rebuilding, Windsor helped bring up the 50 partnership with Chloe Hill, along with the team’s 150.
The very next ball, Windsor drove a low full toss from Shachi Pai through the covers before she used her feet to come down the track to a ball from Emma Lamb, and the cover boundary was pierced once more.
Windsor then brought up her half century with an emphatic straight drive back over the bowler’s head for four, as the Vipers neared ever closer to their target.
A clip off her legs off Jones took the Vipers to within 15 runs of victory, but the batter was dismissed with just 14 runs needed for victory.
Chloe Hill and Tara Norris then guided the Vipers home to win by four wickets, with three overs to spare.
