Hawks Abroad: Dawson And Baker In The Wickets, Go-Time In The WBBL

Liam Dawson and Sonny Baker are involved in England’s tri-series with Pakistan and Sri Lanka, while the WBBL is about to kick off

Hampshire’s stars have been a bright spot as England struggle in their ODI series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Sonny Baker picked up three for 65 in the Three Lions’ opening match against Pakistan but didn’t feature in their next two thrilling games.

Liam Dawson was then selected ahead of Adil Rashid for the next two games, claiming one for 71 against Sri Lanka as he had Dasun Shanaka caught for 97, and then two for 30 as England slipped to defeat against Pakistan.

England are yet to win a match, leaving them bottom of the table with one match to play, against Sri Lanka on Thursday 29th October.

The Three Lions need Pakistan to thump Sri Lanka on Tuesday 27th October to give them a chance of reaching the final on Saturday 31st October.

In Australia, Amanda-Jade Wellington has been in action for Adelaide Strikers in the T20 Spring Challenge, a warm-up series ahead of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), which starts on Thursday 29th October.

She claimed six wickets in five matches, with a best of two for 15 against the Perth Scorchers, as the Strikers topped the group but lost to the Scorchers in the semi-final.

Three Hampshire stars are set to feature in the WBBL, along with Wellington. Lauren Bell has been signed for Sydney Thunder, with Georgia Adams also coaching the green team, and will kick off the competition against Melbourne Renegades, who have Deandra Dottin, Hayley Matthews, and Chloe Tryon in their ranks.

Hobart Hurricanes retained Linsey Smith after last year’s victory, along with fellow England teammate Danni Wyatt-Hodge. The Hurricanes will play Melbourne Stars at 8:10am UK time on Thursday 29th October.

Maia Bouchier has moved from the Stars to Adelaide Strikers, where she will link up with Amanda-Jade Wellington after a prolific summer with the bat.

The two-time champions begin their campaign on Saturday 31st October against Melbourne Stars.

Jake Lehmann is continuing his excellent form with the willow. He made 33 in South Australia’s 70-run win over Victoria and followed it up with a 46-ball 58 as the Redbacks racked up 397/7 against Queensland in the One Day Cup.

South Australia are currently top of the table with three wins from four matches, with one no result.

In the Sheffield Shield, Lehmann backed up his 90 against Victoria with 62 against Queensland, but South Australia lost by six wickets.
