Hampshire Hawks v Surrey
Vitality Blast (South Group)
Thursday 30th May 2024 (7pm Start)
Utilita Bowl
Hampshire Hawks begin their 2024 Vitality Blast campaign on Thursday by welcoming Surrey to Utilita Bowl.
The match is the second part of the Vitality Blast Off Double-Header which follows women's double champions Southern Vipers' Charlotte Edwards Cup match against Western Storm.
James Vince's side will be looking for a good start as they hunt down an eleventh Finals Day, which would also be their fourth appearance at Edgbaston in a row. However, the Hawks have lost their opening match in the last three seasons.
Surrey, who are looking for their first T20 title since 2003, will also be looking to begin their campaign with a victory at Utilita Bowl.
The last meeting between the two sides was at The Kia Oval where the Hawks recorded a nine-wicket victory.
Hawks Squad
Hampshire Hawks have named a 13-player squad for their opening match against Surrey.
Australian wicket-keeper batter Ben McDermott is back for his third season with the Hawks, while Michael Neser made his Hampshire debut in their last Vitality County Championship match.
Ali Orr has recovered from a back spasm which saw him miss the last red-ball match.
Benny Howell, John Turner, Joe Weatherley and Chris Wood are all included in the squad, as is Academy prospect Eddie Jack.
Tom Prest is the main absentee with a fractured shoulder, while Brad Wheal has gone to the ICC T20 World Cup with Scotland.

Squad: Ollie Pope (c), Sean Abbott, Gus Atkinson, Rory Burns, Tom Curran, Jordan Clark, Laurie Evans, Spencer Johnson, Dan Lawrence, Jason Roy, Dom Sibley, Jamie Smith, Cam Steel, Dan Worrall
Surrey will once again be challengers in 2024, but are still yet to add to their only T20 title which they bagged during the inaugural 2003 season. Last season they qualified for Finals Day, seeing off Lancashire in the quarter-final with relative ease, only to be beaten by eventual winners Somerset at Edgbaston.
However, this season they face the challenge of four top players heading to the T20 World Cup with England – Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Reece Topley and captain Chris Jordan. As a result, it will be down to the likes of Laurie Evans, Gus Atkinson, Jamie Smith and new signing Dan Lawrence to pick up results early on. The performances of Jason Roy will also be interesting for the first eight matches before he departs for Major League Cricket in the USA. Meanwhile, an Australian overseas duo of Sean Abbott and Spencer Johnson further strengthens their bowling attack.
