After back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023, this summer has started in similar fashion for Surrey. An opening round match with Lancashire was cut short by rain, before they threatened to chase down an incredible 209 from just 19 overs against Somerset – but had to settle for another draw. Last week they then did pick up their first victory of 2024 with a convincing victory over Kent, leaving them second behind only Essex.
Cameron Steel has been a standout player so far and leads the country with 20 wickets taken so far. Last year's top run scorer Dom Sibley has also started strong with two centuries, while Dan Lawrence, who made the move from Essex in the winter, scored his first ton in a Surrey shirt last time out. Skipper Rory Burns also has many other talented options including Jamie Smith, Dan Worrall and Kemar Roach, as well as the England contingent of Ollie Pope, Ben Foakes and Gus Atkinson who are important players when available.
