D40 Match Report - 12/05/2024

Hampshire secure a 6 wicket win over Yorkshire

Our D40 Disability Side secured victory on Sunday 12th May against last season’s D40 champions Yorkshire at Hartley Whitney Cricket Club.

Having won the toss Hampshire captain Greg Mckenzie elected to field first, as Hampshire managed to restrict the visitors to 138/9 from their allotted 40 overs. Hampshire’s pick of the bowlers were Hugo Hammond (3-19), with wicket taking contributions from Greg Mckenzie (2-37), James Humphries (1-9), Henri Able (1-27) & Freddie Leamon (1-12) on his Hampshire debut.

Hampshire set about there run chase looking to make quick work of the 139 required to win, however captain Greg Mckenzie who looked in good touch with two early boundaries was run out for 9, quickly followed by Hugo Hammond who was dismissed for 3, leaving Hampshire needing to find a recovery.

Ben Williams struck a very impressive unbeaten 73 from 67 balls forming a significant partnership with Thomas Millward (41 off 49 balls) to steer Hampshire to a comfortable victory by 6 wickets with 15 overs to spare.

Hampshire’s next game is away to Wales on May 26th.
