The Hampshire D40 Squad travelled to Bootle Cricket Club on Sunday 9th June to face Lancashire. On an overcast day, Lancashire won the toss and elected to field first. Hampshire posted a strong target of 258/9 from 40 overs, thanks to a terrific knock from Ben Williams of 125 runs off of 87 balls batting at number four. Ben was ably supported by Henry Schooling with 30 runs, with other significant scoring contributions coming from Captain Greg Mckenzie (30), Flynn Rochford (37) & Freddie Leamon (15)
In a rain disrupted second innings. Hampshire bowled and fielded in superior fashion, taking regular wickets to limit Lancashire in response thanks to 3-31 from opening bowler Monty McKenzie, with other wicket contributions coming from Martin Williams (2-11), Greg McKenzie (1-5), Freddie Leamon (1-11) dismissing Lancashire for 98 runs to emerge victorious by 160 runs.
Elsewhere, the Super 9’s lead by Scott Howe on his captaincy debut travelled to Harlow Town Cricket Club to face Essex. Hampshire won the toss and fielded first, bowling very well to dismiss the home side for 133 off of 25 overs. Woody Rose bowled impressively, taking two wickets for the visiting side with other wicket taking contributions coming from Paul Melvin, Sanchin Landa, Connor Bates, Jo Legg & Scott Howe.
After the break however, Essex turned up the heat with some extremely accurate swing bowling, not allowing Hampshire to gain any momentum as Hampshire limped to 32 all out from 15 overs, falling to defeat by 101 runs.
