Event inspired next wave of women’s cricketers at Utilita Bowl

Driving participation and ambition in the women’s game

Hampshire Cricket Board recently welcomed girls from clubs across the county to Utilita Bowl for a special Big Girls Dynamos Cricket Day, an inspiring celebration of the women’s game and a chance to get up close with elite role models.

Delivered by HCB’s community team, the day was designed to build excitement and inspiration ahead of the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup, which is just over 50 days away.

Upon arrival, the girls were treated to an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the stadium, giving them a unique look at one of the country’s premier cricket venues. The morning then moved into a series of fun, engaging games and cricket-based activities, helping participants build confidence, develop skills and enjoy the game alongside friends old and new.

A real highlight of the day came when members of the Hampshire Women’s team joined the session, giving the girls the opportunity to meet their heroes and learn more about life as a professional cricketer. Players spoke openly about their own journeys, training routines and preparations for the global tournament, sharing insights that inspired the next generation.

Among those in attendance was Australian international and Hampshire star Amanda-Jade Wellington, who joined the group discussions and helped answer questions during an interactive Q&A session.

Days like this are hugely important for inspiring the next generation of female cricketers. Giving girls the chance to experience a major venue like Utilita Bowl, meet elite players and feel part of the wider cricket community can have a really lasting impact. With the Women’s T20 World Cup just around the corner, it’s a brilliant time to be celebrating and growing the women’s game.”

The Big Girls Dynamos Day underlined HCB’s ongoing commitment to growing the women’s and girls’ game, using flagship events and inspirational role models to show young players what’s possible, both on and off the field.
